Mexican grey wolf, also known as the lobo, is a critically endangered species of canis lupus. They are native to North America and are one of the largest wild dogs in North America. The wolves were once common throughout Mexico but their numbers have dwindled due to habitat loss, hunting and human encroachment.
Despite being a protected species under Mexican law, lobos face many threats to their survival. One of the biggest threats is the loss of habitat due to deforestation and urbanization. Additionally, the wolves are often targeted by hunters who view them as pests or competitors for resources.
In recent years, conservation efforts have been made to protect the lobo population. These include working with local communities to reduce human-wolf conflicts, reintroducing wolves to suitable habitats, and monitoring wolf populations to track their recovery.
